Scandi Style Kitchen

 

Here is a great Scandinavian style kitchen that has been designed for a Swedish-American family in Brooklyn, New York. I like how the dividers create the spaces without having to build walls - it keeps the overall interior spacious and creates a flow throughout. Read more about it here.

This freestanding unit houses the fridge and kitchen storage. It also acts as a dividing wall between spaces.

The divider becomes a bookshelf on the other side towards the living room.

Another built in divider, which houses the coat cupboard, defines the entrance and the living spaces.

Craft Cafe in Paris

Spotted on Remodelista this morning is this stylish Parisian cafe with a great concept. Aimed to the creatively inclined, Craft is halfway a coffee, reading and co working space. Designed by Paris based design firm Pool, Craft serves to the self employed creatives (like me!), who are mobile, skilled and more often than not connect with their clients and fellow workers away from the office. It also is another environment to be creative surrounded by others, rather than in isolation in front of the keyboard. Love this concept and this space - wish it was close to me and my fellow designers

Ellis House on Remodelista

Remodelista are having 'Australia by Design' week and they have been profiling some great interiors, including this holiday rental, Ellis House. Located at Kyneton, about an hour from Melbourne, this 1860's four bedroom home has been renovated in a moody palette with lots of texture and rich details. Looks great.

Staircase from The Bourne Legacy

you've seen The Bourne Legacy.

I'm so relieved as a mystery has finally been solved for me - all thanks to Remodelista.
I first saw the film, The Bourne Legacy last year and was intrigued by the house that Rachel Weisz's scientist character lived in - which, to my disbelief, got destroyed. The part of this house that blew me away was the three storey elliptical staircase. It was stunning - I hadn't seen anything like it.
Afterwards I tried to to find information about the movie set - was it a real house or a staged set; to no avail. It really annoyed me!
However, as of this morning, I now know that this house was a movie set based on a real historic house called the Dr Oliver Bronson House, found in Hudson, New York. The original house was considered too fragile to deal with the rigours of filming so a replica was built. Blue Kitchen

 

 

 I am working on a lot of kitchens at the moment - so while researching I've noticed that I definitely pause and admire the kitchens with colour. While you can't go wrong with a classic white kitchens, there is something rather lovely about the depth and richness of using a colour, like this calm blue grey one in Copenhagen, designed by Kobenhavns Mobelsnedkeri. It contrast beautifully with the timber floor and the dark hardware.

I have been researching conservatory images for a client of mine. We have refurbished most of her family home and the transformation has been fantastic. One of the rooms left to do is the conservatory, which will be next year's project - so I have been slowly building some visuals to get some ideas and have been trying all kinds of names to find them, including sunroom, patio, screened in porch, solarium, window seat, outdoor rooms, etc. Here is a small selection of what I have found so far.

Garden Wallpaper

Varklocka wallpaper by Josef Franks

The clean lines of the Kartell pendant light works well with the detailed wallpaper.

I don't usually choose wallpaper as detailed as the one above - however, I have a job where the wallpaper will only take up less than half a wall above existing white painted panelling. So with the panels below to balance it off, more detailed and small patterns is welcomed for a change.
Love this botanical one above, found in a Sydney home, by Josef Frank (who emigrated to Sweden in the 1930's) - it's like walking through a garden.

Round Leather Mirror by Adnet

Spotted on Remodelista - these stylish round leather campaign-style mirrors designed by French architect Jacques Adnet (1900-1984). Available from Gubi, the Adnet mirror is beautifully constructed with leather straps and brass details. What also makes the mirror unique is the strap that holds the mirror is in direct proportion to the dimension of the mirror. Stunning. Check out the exceptional staged interiors by Gubi (above) that exhibit the mirrors in true stylish form.
