Rekindle

Yesterday I received a message from a friend who is visiting Christchurch - she sent me a photo of a cafe where she was enjoying a coffee and I noticed the table she was sitting at. It was a Rekindle table.
Rekindle are doing an amazing job turning the waste wood from Christchurch's earthquake into furniture, jewellery and sculpture.  I'm glad to see this social enterprise still going strong - they now have a pop up store and gallery on Regent Street and an online store for the rest of us. Looking good.

Christchurch Rumbles Again.

Christchurch was dealt another blow yesterday - several serious aftershocks shuddered through the city, causing more damage and undoing the hard work that Cantabrians have been doing over the last six months. The psychological damage would be enough to defeat most people and at a time when they should be relaxing with family and friends.
My family and I all have lovely homes and to know that Christchurch are dealing with uncertainty, damage, breakages and liquidifcation - it is at once humbling and heartbreaking.
I have overseas colleagues and friends expressing their concern and dismay at the latest event.
Christchurch - our heartfelt thoughts are with you and I hope in this difficult time, some calmness and brights stars come through for you.

Welcome to Femme de Brocante based in Rangiora, outside of Christchurch. This shop has been mentioned to me by two clients over the last week. After some investigation and the shocking earthquake that happened over the weekend around Christchurch, it seemed appropriate to pay tribute to them today. Founded in 2006 by Jo and Emily, FdB was created to bring affordable designer fabrics to the public. They source fabrics from Europe, USA and India and while these fabric would normally retail up to $200 per metre, FdB sell their entire quality designer fabrics at wholesale prices - usually between $10.00 to $55.00 per metre. Score! My client has a Ralph Lauren fabric that she adores and paying only $35.00 per metre. Just amazing.
Check out their Facebook page where they post photos of some their fabric range as well as other accessories that they stock (you don't need to be on FB to have a look). And if you're keen on something, just give them a call. They are happy to send samples and cuttings throughout New Zealand.
